BIOGRAPHY:
Ginny Weasley is the youngest and only girl of the seven Weasley children. Her mother was delighted to have a daughter, although Ginny did not grow up to be a very girly girl. Ginny’s brothers always treated her differently because of her gender. When she was younger, they did not allow her to play Quidditch with them. Angry, she would sneak into the broom closet outside and practice late at night when everyone was asleep. She was so quiet that no one ever found this out. Ginny loved the late night practices, she felt liberated in the air, a way that she never felt when she dealt with her brothers and her mother. Ginny was always angry that she wasn’t allowed do to the same things her brothers were, including going to school. Ginny grew up watching her brothers go away to Hogwarts, and she spent her young childhood listening to them tell miraculous stories about all the things they got to do. To a young girl who felt trapped in her house, Hogwarts seemed like the perfect place to go out and do what she wanted.
Ginny also grew up hearing stories of the Wizarding War, and how Harry Potter destroyed He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. So when she heard that her brother Ron had met him, she was fascinated. She was so nervous when he lived in their house during the summer before she went to Hogwarts she could barely talk to him, and always knocked things over when he was around. It didn’t help that he gave her the free set of books that Gilderoy Lockhart gave him when they were in Flourish and Blotts. She was so thankful, she wasn’t used to boys being nice to her. All of her brothers teased her and she didn’t know how to react to this famous boy who acted like he was nothing special. Therefore, when Draco Malfoy started making fun of him while they were in the store, Ginny did the first thing she thought of, be nice back. She stood up for him, and turned as red as her hair when Draco called her Harry’s girlfriend. When Draco’s father approached, she wasn’t sure what to do when he took her school books. She didn’t notice then that he added a book to the mix when he placed them back in her cauldron.
Ginny found the book later when she was packing all her school supplies to bring with her to Hogwarts. She didn’t pay any mind to it then, as she was too excited to pay any one thing very much attention. She saw the book again after she unpacked her things in her dormitory. She had just been sorted into Gryffindor, and she was excited to start her new year. She also couldn’t get Harry Potter out of her head, she couldn’t help wishing that she could be Hermione who got to talk to him all the time. She was Ron’s little sister, there was no reason for Harry to want to talk to her, especially since she could barely get a word out whenever she was around him. Filled with new feelings and no outlet for them, Ginny got the idea to start a diary with the small black book. It seemed the perfect book to write all of her thoughts and feelings in. She was astounded when the book actually wrote back. At first, she was a little cautious, but Tom Riddle was nice and he understood her in a way that no one ever had before.
Ginny’s life seemed to be perfect, until she started having blackouts. She couldn’t remember how she got where she was or what she had been doing, it began to scare her. Then, one night she came out of one of the blackouts to see Filch’s cat hanging by its tail near a message in blood, the very same blood covered her hands. She ran to a bathroom and cleaned her hands, crying. She became extremely anxious whenever anyone talked about the cat. The episodes kept happening, and Ginny knew it was the diary’s fault. She wanted to get rid of it, and she knew that she couldn’t let it get in anyone else’s hands. She went to the most deserted place she could think of, Moaning Myrtle’s bathroom, and tried to flush it down the toilet. She felt better, though she missed Tom Riddle, at least the way he had been in the beginning, kind and helpful.
Things got worse when she heard that Harry had possession of the diary. She was terrified that he would be able to make the diary show him what she wrote about him. Not only that, she couldn’t let him deal with the blackouts. She didn’t want him to know that it was hers, so she waited until the coast was clear and then quickly looked for it. The blackouts got worse and worse until one day she woke up with Harry next to her. He had saved her life and her feelings for him were even more intense. She wasn’t sure how to talk to him, what do you say to someone who saved your life?
Her next year wasn’t very suspenseful. She found her way into the cabin that Harry, Ron and Hermione were in during the Dementor attack. She didn’t pass out like Harry did, but she felt she could understand why he did, as her experience with He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named the previous year made her burst into tears. From then on she tried to avoid them as much as possible, and she gave Harry a get well card when he fell off his broom during the Quidditch match.
Going into her 3rd year at Hogwarts, Ginny is hopeful that she will learn more about herself and become more confident. At 13 years old, she is ready to grow and become more mature. She hopes to make many friends, and maybe deal with her feelings for Harry, or at least work on walking into the same room as him without tripping.
